The Boat
Puffin is a Colvic Sailer 26. Although little is known about Puffin, we do know that they were generally built in the 1980s. Designed by David Feltham they are a capable 26’ seaworthy design. Puffin was potentially fitted out by the first owner and is of the integral bilge keel design. A sturdy boat she is the perfect strength to cover my mistakes!
The Build
If you’ve come here after watching any of the videos, I won’t need to tell you that Puffin is a blank canvas. With no engine, electrics or anything of substance left within or on deck, I can really let my imagination run wild.
I will be using my time to build upon what skills I already have and develop new skills to completely refit Puffin to a modern design and look. Where possible I will use new products, materials and techniques to hopefully create a one of a kind sailboat.
I have never owned or worked on a sailboat before, so prepare for mistakes!
The Idea
The focus from the beginning, (with the help of there not being any engine anyway), was to create a sailboat that is self-sufficient and uses as much renewable energy sources as possible. Although the obvious choices are an electric engine and lots of solar panels, I will also be looking at other technologies for other areas of live-aboard life. Including recycling and food stores.
